The architecture of Bena is very traditional and it still has many ancient rites and customs that are remnants of the megalithic period. An ancient Ngada village situated 18 Kms from Bajawa and sited at the base of the Inerie mountain. A village since the 14th century in this location.

The two most visited areas in the Ngada region are Bena and Wogo, both unique megalithic complexes with traditional housing. To Ngadha society, the traditional houses occupy an important role as organizational units, as villagers must each belong to a house, thereby a clan. Clan totems can be ornately crafted symbols of this social organization.

Gibel, I've added info under the photo, I apologise for lack of it- too excited by being on flickr. Ta for comment, megalithic & religious roots for rocks.

sonia, these rocks are impressive & what you see here is only the beginning of rocks being incorporated everywhere. Thanks for comments

Splash of colour in the centre against the earthy colours. Very nice PP. Well seen eagle iris.

very interesting place TJ, what great stuff. the steep rooves are like Toraja houses i've seen. I think you should do a grand design show up there

PP1, appreciated-just what I was after in this colour splash in this village of megaliths

PS, ethnic architecture is a blast! Steep roofs for ventilating, shedding heavy rainfall quickly, loft spaces at times, Grand Designs is invading- we now only design with bamboo & thatch
