This is nice pic, i wish i was there. On Oct. 10th 08, my friend and i climbed the mount of Tambora and we went to the top, but couldn't go to the peak because there was foggy and windy so we have to go down as quick as possible - because we didn't want to get lost in the top of the mount Tambora. You can check my blog called Lombok2008 or pics. tagged as trekking mount Tambora office. Thanks for pic sharing.

Tambora the hard way

I have recently climbed the volcano Tambora, reaching the summit of the volcano's caldera early morning on the 30th November 2009. A non technical ascent mainly through rain forest which surround the lower slopes of the volcano. Difficulties were therefore mainly confined to hot humid conditions, persistent rain and even more persistent leeches, which are apparently indestructible.
The top three hundred feet or so is forest (and leech) free, generally dry and clear, allowing grand views of the massive caldera, which is humongous, absolutely awesome and almost frighteningly Gothic in appearance. Staring down into the smoking cauldron, it requires little imagination to visualize in your minds eye the actual eruption. A moment to savor in a lifetime of moments!
A guide and porter is necessary, the return hike takes (on average) two days from the trekking center, situated in the small town of Panecilla, on the lower South West slopes of the volcano. A local bus leaves Dompu for Panecilla every morning between seven and eight (allow an uncomfortable, hot seven hours drive).
I suggest you combine your Tambora ascent with a visit to the Komodo Islands National Park and a trip through the remarkable island of Flores.
